Out of the Desert has performed together for the last 6 years. Playing from a set list of over 150 songs, each show is unique and tailored to the crowd. With three lead vocalists, their smooth and powerful harmonies are a signature of an Out of the Desert show. Featuring 2-time Nevada state fiddle champion Rick Seligman, Mark Sanders on banjo, John Lundmark on guitar and Brian Burns on bass and mandolin. They have become a southwest favorite as a featured act at the Route 66 Festival, Logandale Fall Festival and Pahrump AcoustiGrass Festival as well as many Las Vegas venues such as the House of Blues, Container Park, Downtown Events Center, Chelsea Ballroom and more.
Rick Seligman, Fiddle
Rick started playing the fiddle in 1976 mostly in fiddle contests around Southern California for a few years with The Rank Strangers, Rock Springs and Mohave Country. Rick moved to Las Vegas in 1995 and performed with Ernie Cockran and the New South, Las Vegas Blues Kings and did 3 years with Finnegans Wake playing Las Vegas and Atlantic City. In 2006 Rick won the Nevada state fiddle championship.
Mark Sanders, Banjo/Vocals
Mark is from Manhattan Beach, CA and started playing banjo around 1971. His experience is mostly from playing on the streets for tips which was done regularly and successfully along the West Coast – Redondo Beach, CA, Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, BC. Along the way he played with two bands of note – The Dynamic Logs and The Skyline Drifters, both based in Seattle. Mark joined Out of the Desert in 2008.
John Lundmark, Guitars/Vocals
John was born in Las Vegas. He learned the guitar in junior high school and through the years he has performed in plays, musical theatre, and a few TV commercials. Around 1999 he was asked by friends to play guitar and do some three part vocals with them. That’s when he met Rick Seligman, the fiddle player. They went on to form Out of the Desert in 2008.
Brian Burns. Bass, Vocals
Brian is a 25 year resident of Las Vegas who originally hails from Wellington, Ohio. Playing in bands since the age of 13, he plays the electric and upright basses, guitar, mandolin and sings lead and background vocals. Previously playing with Northwest bluegrass bands such as Bonneville Slide, the New Old Timers and Switchgrass, Brian has been performing with Out of the Desert for 6 years.
